As women we have a ton of decisions to make. It usually starts in the morning with getting out of bed!
Sometimes we are dragged out of bed by our children, if we have them. Other times were dragged out of bed by the alarm clock, if we are working outside the home.
Regardless, we’ll begin making decisions before our feet even hit the floor in the morning.
What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear today? Do I have time to workout? Will I make time for the Lord? Do I have time to put gas in the car? If we’re organized, we’re already thinking about supper.
Between our homes, our kids, our husbands, our jobs and our own personal lives, we have a ton of decisions to make every single day.
The question is, what will we used to make those decisions?
Do we use our gut?
Our opinions?
What other people are doing?
The latest trends?
Do we let our children determine our decisions?
As Christian wives, our husbands are the head of the household. The Word says we are to submit to their headness. I know that’s not a word, but I like it better than authority LOL
I have some pretty strong opinions about a wife’s roll in marriage. And yes my husband agrees with me. You can read about those in my post, Are You Equal To your Husband, Part 2 Submission.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
This last Sunday in church, our pastor finished up the sermon with decisions and what we need to consider when we are making them.
He was talking about when temptation comes, but after listening to the sermon and re-reading my husband’s notes, it seemed to me that these four steps weren’t just for temptation , but for every decision we make in our day.
4 Steps in Decision Making
- Will this decision bring blessing or brokenness? Almost every decision we make can lead to blessing or brokenness. From the clothes we wear, which as women can lead a man into temptation if we choose unwisely. Even what we eat, drink or if we workout. Our bodies are the temple and we need to treat it as such.
- Will this decision bring me real freedom or captivity? Again, every decision we make can lead us into freedom or into captivity. When we make financial decision we are either paying off debt, not accruing debt or spending unwisely, which is either financial freedom or financial capacity. I was just talking the other day with a friend about the financial captivity and draw of credit cards.
- Does this decision have eternal significance? The way I see it we have 2 choices. To believe in the Name of Jesus for our salvation or to not.
Acts 16:31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
This is the only decision I believe that has eternal significance, because, IF we choose to believe we are also changed beings and no longer live as the flesh lives because of the Grace and Mercy of the Lord.
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
- Does this decision glorify God? Every decision we make will either give God glory or it won’t. We are selfish beings and giving God the glory in all things is not in our nature. It is a choice. We must choose to see all things from His eyes and give Him the Glory for everything.
Final Musings
There are so many important decisions in this life to make and our best efforts can lead to destruction. With the Lord at the helm, we are sure that He will be there to lead and guide our steps. Trusting Him with everything in our day is the best thing we can do.
Proverbs 16:9
A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.
I admit I am not always great as this, but I always have hope.
Psalms 71:14 As for me, I will always have hope;
I will praise you more and more.
How does using these 4 steps in decision making help you today? What decisions do you have to make that you can use these step to help you?
Let me know in the comments.
